Legal Framework

The Defence Space Administration Act 2016 establishes the DSA under statute. It operates alongside the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) Act 2010, the National Security Agencies Act, and the Armed Forces Act. Constitutional authority derives from Section 217 of the 1999 Constitution on the composition and powers of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Nigeria's obligations under the Outer Space Treaty 1967 and the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) guidelines provide the international framework.
