Legal Framework
The FCT Area Courts (Repeal and Re-enactment) Act derives authority from Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution, which applies federal legislative powers to the FCT. It operates alongside the High Court of the FCT Act, the FCT Customary Court Act 2007, and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015. The Act aligns with the National Judicial Policy's standards on access to justice in lower courts and the Federation Account's funding of FCT judicial infrastructure.
