Legal Framework
The National Environmental (Electrical/Electronic Sector) Regulations are issued by NESREA under the NESREA Act 2007. They operate alongside the Environmental Impact Assessment Act 1992, the Harmful Waste (Special Criminal Provisions) Act, and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Act. International alignment is with the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes, the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, and the EU WEEE Directive (as a comparative standard for e-waste management).
