Important Terms
Term 1-Space Applications This refers to the practical use of space technology in everyday life. For Nigeria, it means leveraging satellites for communication in rural areas, weather forecasting for farmers, disaster monitoring during floods, and mapping for urban planning. Term 2- Indigenous Capacity This is the ability of Nigeria to design, build, and operate its own space systems without relying entirely on foreign partners. It involves training engineers, establishing research labs, and developing local industries that can manufacture satellite components. Indigenous capacity is critical for sovereignty, reducing dependence, and fostering innovation.

Legal Framework
The National Space Policy operates under the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) Act 2010, the Space Policy Decree, and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation mandate. It aligns with the Outer Space Treaty 1967, the Convention on International Liability for Damage Caused by Space Objects (1972), and the Registration Convention 1975 — all ratified by Nigeria. The UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) guidelines on long-term sustainability of outer space activities provide normative direction.
