Legal Framework

Nigeria's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement is submitted pursuant to Article 4 of the Paris Agreement (UNFCCC). It derives domestic authority from the Climate Change Act 2021, which mandates periodic NDC reviews and implementation. The NDC aligns with the National Policy on Climate Change, the Environmental Impact Assessment Act 1992, and the NESREA Act 2007. The African Union Common Position on Climate Change provides the continental framework for Nigeria's NDC commitments.
